Westshore Invited to Bid on Ottawa County Comprehensive Water Resources Study Project
On May 7th, Westshore Consulting received a request-for-proposal from the Ottawa County Planning Commission to complete a county-wide comprehensive water resources study. Ottawa county reports that, "since 2005, there have been instances where aquifers in certain areas of the county have not had the capacity to support new development. These instances have raised concern among public officials and residents as to whether available aquifers can sustain increasing demands for groundwater withdrawals in the county."
Water use and water use planning are hot topics in the media right now due to the visibility of changes to lake water quality and seasonal water levels in most of our area's major bodies of water. New information regarding long-used environmental contaminants (e.g.: fertilizers and pharmaceuticals) has added to this concern and Ottawa County seeks to gather scientific information to aid in decision making.
Westshore Consulting's staff of environmenal scientists, hydrogeologists, and public health specialists are well-suited to assist the county in assembling a functioning decision-making system.
